High Line Musings

One day you're on top of the world and the next day you're in the gutter!
Spring is still springing all over. More flowers, more leaves, more green every day and the birds are singing an opera. Although it's still in the 50's in the morning people are leaving their jackets at home in anticipation of warmer temperatures later in the day.

I headed over to the High Line yet again. It was less windy this morning so I could actually see through my hair. The greenery is really filling in. The trees are noticeably bigger and don't look freshly planted any more. The mini-forest of birch trees on the Gansevoort end is one of my favorite parts although there is another tree branch covered walkway around 22nd street that is also a favorite.

One of the buildings going up along the High Line has just about obscured the view of the Empire State Building. There will still be some places to see it but that little stretch used to be a favorite photo op for visitors (and me too.) That is the downside of the popular High Line. Once it caught on...builders decided the neighborhood could use more apartments.

In the early days of the High Line park the view of the neighborhood from 3 stories up was as much of a draw as the park-like feeling of the formerly abandoned railway. It will always be a great park experience but the neighboring buildings are now more new construction than the character rich older buildings.
