Bench Boots

It's 20 degrees. Why would you take your boots off and leave them on the sidewalk? There are better places to leave them if you want to donate!

Turtle Lovers Magazine

I'm a little surprised that the publishers think there are enough people interested in Tortoise Magazine that they would actually take out a billboard advertisement!

Not a Pretty Picture

You kind of have to admire that tree...still growing on that little strip of ground. Before winter it was still alive. I hope to see some leaves on it this spring.

Phantom Pier

Here are some of my favorite ghostly pier remains in the Hudson River. They have been there a long time regardless of the ice surrounding them and the water rushing by them and the stress and strain of the pier above them when they were young.

Highline Viewing

This is the viewing area on the High Line. Not sure if that means people on the High Line can view below or if people below can view the people on the High Line. Of course, it works both ways. Usually there are a lot of people sitting up there but the cold weather is keeping them away.

Morning temperature:  31 degrees on a day that the high is predicted to be 28 degrees!

Still Winter

It was 2 degrees when I left home but what's a degree or two? Looks like we broke the previous record of 7 degrees for this date.

Wishing for Spring

I'm seeing lots of indications that people are looking forward to Spring. Here is a window with lots of hanging vases hosting some Spring-y blossoms.

Restoration

It will be interesting to watch this restoration project in the meatpacking district. The building has been gutted to the exterior walls. The first floor is mostly cement block now but they are trying to keep that original second floor. It's held in place by steel support beams inside and out.

Happy Valentine's Day

It's not often that a chain link fence wishes me a Happy Valentine's Day. And no this was not one of my knitting projects...just a nice discovery on the walk home from the compost drop.

Japanese Mexican

I saw this sign posted on a wall first. It wasn't near anything in particular. I didn't know what it referred to...Japanese Inspired Mexican souvenirs...clothing? Later I saw that it was food. My mind can't wrap around what kind of food this could be...Mexican sushi...Japanese chefs chopping up pork? - and I'm not sure I'd dare to try it!

This tiny park looks a little sad with few evergreens and no leaves on the other trees but it's still an interesting NYC shot.

Chocolate Snowflake Cake

I was seduced by a recipe for Chocolate Stout Cake. I think everything went blurry after the word chocolate and my impaired thinking didn't consider that Stout is beer of which I am not a fan. When I saw a bottle of Chocolate Stout...I bought it and made the cake. I felt the cake had a "hoppy" taste but with a little chocolate ganache and whipped cream I said...Let me eat cake!

And I took it to a birthday party where prior consumption of Margaritas dulled the senses to beer hops. Chocolate is good and all was well.

Guggenheim

Made a trip to the Guggenheim designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for a special boy's birthday. An art gallery in a spiral is an interesting concept. And "Guggenheim" is fun to say!

Do you think anyone ever called ol' Sol Guggenheim "Guggie"?

Iron Bannisters

I like to look at the ironwork on the fences and stairways of the old brownstones...each a little different from the other.  Not exactly what I would call my style (if I have one) but I can appreciate it and the history it signifies.

Brunch Oven

At 18 degrees and a close to zero windchill - brunch by a wood burning oven sounded pretty good! Great marketing idea!
