Ladies Room

I understand the message but why include "This is a Ladies Room." That was pretty obvious by the sign on the door!

Another little oasis in the big city (but don't walk on the grass!)

Big Bling

This new sculpture in Madison Square Park is called Big Bling. I kinda saw an elephant!

Another photographer got the prime spot for the rear view. Between the trees and the nasty sun there weren't many options...though I don't like to complain about trees!

Window washers

Way up on the top of this photo are the window washers. In NYC 14 floors isn't very high but I wouldn't want to be swinging out there in the wind!

Cemetery

This cemetery accepted burials from 1829 to 1851 although by 1851 it was illegal to bury here and relatives had to pay fines. It's now trapped between taller uninteresting buildings but it remains...a little oasis in the city.

The photo was taken at twilight and doesn't show the white flowers on the tree to their best advantage. This was from last week but I noticed last night that the flowers are gone.

Union Square Park

They've brought out the tables and chairs on one end of the park. I like the twisty trees in the background.

Philadelphia

I was walking through the park after making my compost drop when I heard "Excuse me, Miss." I stopped and turned back to see this guy. He said, "Could you take my picture?" I said, "Yes, but I can't give it to you." He said, "It's so you'll remember Philadelphia."  Thinking he didn't know he was in NYC I wittily said, "Philadelphia???" He said, "I'm from Philadelphia." Can't argue that logic! Click and done!

St Sava

It was shocking and sad to hear that the Serbian Orthodox Church, St Sava had burned Sunday night which was the evening of Orthodox Easter. The beautiful stained glass windows and the roof are gone.

This church was built in 1851 and was an Episcopal church when Edith Wharton, the writer, was married in it in 1885. It is a block from my former workplace and I had often walked by and admired it.

I was a guest at the Slava (saint day) celebration of a friend for several years. Although it was held in the Fellowship hall I once got a tour of the inside of the church.

Street Fair

My first street fair of the season was just around the corner of my apartment. The bad thing about that is I could keep going back! This one had a lot of food options. One of those big donuts was my first purchase!

The Home Frite and Spicy Margaritas were new choices but I didn't try them.
