Commuting Entertainment

There is a wide variety of music offered in and around some subway stations. Last night it was this. The night before it was opera.

Sand Drawing

This artist makes his drawings by carefully pouring colored sand from plastic bags. He often gathers quite a crowd. He is also adamant that people who take a photo should make a financial contribution since, as he says, this is how he makes a living. The top photo was taken as he finished his speech and the spectators had all turned to leave except for one brave photographer.

The Chuckwagon

Last night I sold sloppy joes, coleslaw and chips to hungry dancers.

Theatre

I saw It Shoulda Been You at the Brooks Atkinson theatre. It was a funny musical with an old fashioned show feel. I think I like the old theatres as much as the shows.

Seems to be a trend in this neighborhood to have a sign outside the business.

Another Street Fair

Gray skies, a thunderstorm this morning, and serious humidity may have been keeping the crowds down...or maybe it's just that everyone leaves the city in the summer...but I always like to walk through the street fairs.

Thursday Night Class

A local sports store is sponsoring Thursday night exercise classes in the park. This looks like zumba...sometimes it's yoga. The classes usually get more spectators than participants.

You know I didn't participate! If I was going to do that...I would pick a little more private location!

Bakery

I walked by this bakery again this weekend and wondered about the name: Big Booty. I don't want to go in just because of the name!

Movie Shoot

I walked by these vehicles and wondered who would put blue painters tape over the insignias. I thought it was bold vandalism but then I realized the vehicles were for a film shoot and not official at all.

Craft Night

We had five of us for craft night. There was general crafting and merriment and margaritas and key lime pie for 2 birthday girls. Then we had pie on the floor and a margarita on the couch courtesy of our oldest birthday girl. We sure know how to party!

Rocks and Trees

Good ol' Manhattan schist...the rock that makes Manhattan's skyscrapers possible!

Grass and trees are always a pleasure.

I wasn't sure it was a turtle but I stared at it till I saw its' head pop up! Nothing like a hot summer day in the algae in the Harlem Meer in Central Park...better him than me!

Big Pool

This is the Lasker pool at the north end of Central Park. Each photo shows roughly half of the pool that is said to accommodate 1824 swimmers. In the winter it is an ice skating rink. There is no charge to swim but the ice skating will cost you!

Picnic in the Park

I wanted a picture of me and the big tree but all I got was my left hand and part of the big tree! It's hard to set up a self timer camera shot on a rock that I had to climb up on and then run down and over to get in the shot. Four tries and this was the only part of me to get in a photo!

Looks like a good place for a picnic!

And there we have it...lunch on a blanket in a shady spot in the park.

Stray Rats

When I first saw the sign for Stray Rats I thought..."Well, what other kinds of rats would you find in a park?" But the sign seems to fancy to be a caution for rats. It must be some kind of group...maybe a music group although why would they want to be rats???
