The Capitol

One of the things about going to historical sites is that they often are only open from 11am to 4pm.  After getting up for the free breakfast at the motel we were on the road too early so we decided to check out Empire State Plaza in Albany.

The 1899 State Capitol building...one of the few that don't have a dome.

This looks like the mothership but is The Egg

The Egg is a performing arts facility.

With more time to spare we ducked into the State Museum which opened at 9:30am...mainly to look for postcards in the gift shop (not a good selection however). This display next to the gift shop with a fire truck damaged during 911 caught my eye. Thirteen years later and it's still hard to look at...which is probably a good thing. Never forget.

But where are the people of Albany??? It wasn't that early! This main highway through the city was deserted for the whole time we were walking around the area. Freaky!
