The Arsenal

I had to make a stop last night at The Arsenal which is now the administrative offices at the Central Park Zoo. I have a crooked not too great photo of the entry portion to show for it.

The building was started in 1847 and was a storage place for munitions. But by 1853 the
state seized the land beneath it to become a public park (later to be called Central Park). The building survived attempts to demolish it and has been a home to offices, a police precinct and a museum over the years.

Somewhere along the way someone designed the creative banister along the front stair steps.
