Caroling

On the errand run Saturday there was the compost drop, a stop at the Container Store, the post office and the pet food store. At the pet store, there were Christmas Carolers. Who expects carolers at the pet store? Maybe the store wasn't expecting it either because their sound system continued to blast canned music!

There was a big police presence around the GreenMarket at Union Square. They were patrolling, buying food and shopping. We stopped for a fast food lunch where we encountered 13 police officers.

It was a rainy day. It would have been a good day to stay home and stay dry but I don't like the weather telling me what to do!

The Arsenal

I had to make a stop last night at The Arsenal which is now the administrative offices at the Central Park Zoo. I have a crooked not too great photo of the entry portion to show for it.

The building was started in 1847 and was a storage place for munitions. But by 1853 the
state seized the land beneath it to become a public park (later to be called Central Park). The building survived attempts to demolish it and has been a home to offices, a police precinct and a museum over the years.

Somewhere along the way someone designed the creative banister along the front stair steps.

Christmas Lights

This does not look very pretty during the day! Note the pumpkin at the bottom of the photo. Can't we just enjoy one holiday at a time????

Christmas Trees

Christmas trees on the city streets. Many of the tree wranglers come back to the same place year after year. I've never noticed a sign with the family name before. They stay with the trees 24 hours a day for the month long selling season. Some have campers parked on the street. Some build little sheds for protection from the weather.

It still amazes me that they bring so many really big trees because I can't imagine them fitting into an NYC apartment.

Do you think they sell jewelry here?

Last Friday it was quiet on my morning commute...today it was back to normal and more! Lots of people out and more stores had lights on.
