G. Washington's Wallet

Why don't we end the work week with a picture of George Washington's wallet which is in the Old Barracks in Trenton, NJ. Not sure what he needed the wallet for in battle and I can't picture him walking around with a wallet. Where did he put it? Those breeches didn't have pockets. Did he have a purse for his wallet?

Crossing the Delaware

This is the spot on the Delaware that George Washington crossed in December 1776. We know the river was wider. Those people on the bench are sitting on landfill. Between the river and the place I stood to take the photo is a canal and a highway which are also on landfill.

It took George 10 hours to get his 2400 men plus horses and cannons across that river. And then they marched 9 miles in a nasty winter storm to attack the Hessians stationed in Trenton. All that for a 90 minute battle in which they captured 900 men and had a much needed victory.

George Washington Slept Here

The last stop on the trip was this stone house built by a relative, Cornelius Evert Wynkoop.   He was a minuteman and also served on the Committee to detect and defeat Conspiracies along with Aaron Burr.  Cornelius' great grandfather who emigrated to this country in the 1680's is my 10th great grandfather.

The big ol' locust trees obstructed my view a bit but I won't hold it against them since I like trees and they've been there since the 1770's! The house is not open to the public but was worth the stop.

By the way, George Washington slept here in 1782!
