Morning

This is just above my subway stop on my way to work. The lights are a little fuzzy but that's the way I feel in the morning!

Snowy Saturday

The snow kept coming all day but it wasn't setting any records. The GreenMarket was still active but not well attended...but then in January the choices are limited!

Union Square Park

They've brought out the tables and chairs on one end of the park. I like the twisty trees in the background.

Philadelphia

I was walking through the park after making my compost drop when I heard "Excuse me, Miss." I stopped and turned back to see this guy. He said, "Could you take my picture?" I said, "Yes, but I can't give it to you." He said, "It's so you'll remember Philadelphia."  Thinking he didn't know he was in NYC I wittily said, "Philadelphia???" He said, "I'm from Philadelphia." Can't argue that logic! Click and done!

Street Entertainment

Another street performer. He sounded pretty good to me. I couldn't see where he was getting his electricity from...for that electric guitar.

Insane Costumed Person

It wasn't the hottest day yesterday  but the humidity was killer. This guy was dressed in costume head to toe including a furry face mask. When he had accumulated an audience he did a routine spinning a pole. Made me warmer just looking at him.

Impromptu Picnic

After the compost run we grabbed some lunch and took it to the park. We hoped for a bench in the shade which apparently everyone else wanted also. But we scored one of the little tables for our alfresco dining.

Sand Drawing

This artist makes his drawings by carefully pouring colored sand from plastic bags. He often gathers quite a crowd. He is also adamant that people who take a photo should make a financial contribution since, as he says, this is how he makes a living. The top photo was taken as he finished his speech and the spectators had all turned to leave except for one brave photographer.

Thursday Night Class

A local sports store is sponsoring Thursday night exercise classes in the park. This looks like zumba...sometimes it's yoga. The classes usually get more spectators than participants.

You know I didn't participate! If I was going to do that...I would pick a little more private location!

Stray Rats

When I first saw the sign for Stray Rats I thought..."Well, what other kinds of rats would you find in a park?" But the sign seems to fancy to be a caution for rats. It must be some kind of group...maybe a music group although why would they want to be rats???

Sidewalk Performance

There is usually some kind of performance around or in the main subway stations. This is at Union Square Park.

Lafayette

This is the Marquis de Lafayette who was more than a little helpful to the patriot's cause during the Revolutionary War (among his other accomplishments). Now he is forever memorialized in Union Square Park. Not a bad setting.

Art in the Grass

These colorful chunks of plastic are multi-use. They are chairs, tables and art!
I lost track of time in the park today. I was reading. The humidity was lower and the breeze felt good.  The time flew by.

I saw a group of little kids tethered together with their little matching shirts on the way to the playground.

I've noticed lately in the dog run that several dog parents sit on benches with their dogs next to them or at their feet. Do they understand what a "run" is?

I may or may not have been in the background of a college film project. There was a dramatic scene where a man bumps into a woman causing her coffee to spill all over.

But I had to get going. There were errands to run!

A Walk Through the Park

This is an art piece. I like the hammock but not the thing in the middle of it!

Different park. Different film shoot. I didn't know I had walked through a film shoot till I heard someone yell "Background Reset!" I don't actually think that command was due to me but rather the cue to get ready to shoot. Like last week's shoot, they didn't seem to care that random people were walking through the background of their scene.

It used to be that not only did they not want you in the scene but they also had to warn you about it. Maybe they think everyone is so used to being on security cameras that we aren't paranoid about showing up on TV.

As I walked through the GreenMarket to toss my compost I had noticed a strange little section of vendors in a different configuration than the usual booths. From the signs on the booths I had deduced that it might be a film set but didn't see any cameras.

This shoot was for the USA Network series, White Collar. I saw Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer) and Mozzie (Willie Garson) as they walked through their scene in the park several times.

Friday Drizzle

Another barren-looking park ready for spring

Today is National Tell-A-Lie Day. I'm not going to endorse that one. Better to celebrate National Walk to Work Day or Vitamin C Day or Friday!

I did have some chocolate mousse yesterday. I had to look up the difference between mousse and pudding. Apparently there is not much difference. Mousse is supposedly lighter but probably also has more calories. Chocolate is a good thing...either way.
